Visit of Robben Island  Saturday Morning.

Get to the pick up point at  0745. Bus will leave at  08h00 sharp from the big parking down the All Africa House to the left (Economic Building Parking marked with a yellow P at I J 4 5 on the middle campus map) and  transfer to the V&A Waterfront. The driver will have the tickets. he will lead you to the Robben Island Tour Kiosk where you will join the line. you will need your passport or ID book.09h00: Robben Island Tour (09h00 – 12h30) 13h00: Transfer back to UCT (not sure if and where a bus will be). Feel free to stay in Town and unwind a little bit at the Waterfont.  Get to the pick up point at  0745.

 

Tour of Cape Town peninsula  all the way to Cape Point  Sunday

Your Guide will collect you from UCT at 08h45 and you will embark at 0900 on the Cape Peninsula Tour to the picturesque harbour village of Hout Bay. Visit Mariner's Wharf and enjoy an optional trip to Seal Island (this is for own account as it’s weather dependant) and then continue to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve via the famous Chapman’s Peak Drive. Walk up to the top of Cape Point for breathtaking coastal views. After lunch visit the Penguin Colony at Boulders. Your Guide will have you back at UCT by late afternoon, 17h30.

Internet

Please register to EDUROAM, international academic network, ask your IT guy. You need to come with a laptop. Do not leave it in your main checked luggage. keep it with you as they are theft in airports luggage facilities. Same for the cable. We do not have access to a computer lab so bring a laptop or a tablet. You will need a electric adaptor for South Africa. Marielou, Harry  and Bafana are in charge of loading talks and of the projector and other technical details.

Meal Coffee and Transport

​Your registration cover most of the meals , lunch and dinner at the UCT club restaurant and bar from Monday evening to Wednesday lunch time. A Ice breaker will also be held at the UCT club. The UCT club is closed on week end so you will have to pay for lunch and dinner on Saturday 14 and dinner on Sunday 15 as you will have a lunch at Cape Point during the tour of the Peninsula. Registration fees will also cover coffee breaks and social activities during the week end namely A tour to Robben Island by bus and boat and a tour of the Cape Peninsula via Camps bay, Hout Bay, Chapmans peak, Cape Of Good hope. cape Point and the Boulder Penguins Reserve. Breakfast is included at All Africa house and there are common and personal kitchen and fridge depending on the kind of accommodation you have. Supermarket can be found down the road on main road (Pick and Pay, Shoprite, Spar). You will also have to pay for taxi to and from airport and since All Africa House is on campus they will be no expense for transport except on Saturday afternoon to get back the All Africa House or the Fuller Residence

Contact All Africa House (aah@uct.ac.za) prior to arrival to confirm time of arrival and departure or arrange payment with reference Prof M Rouault NTC Triatlas summer school.

Please print the plan of the All Africa House below and here. It is not that easy to find.  You can book your taxi prior to arrival. Price is low, 10 to 15 Euros and it is safe. Shuttle/Taxi are found in the boots just past arrival. Get your rand at the airport at ATM to pay the taxi although Centurion or City Hopper will accept credit card. Ask your driver to bring you to the ATM at the Airport, if you need cash. Call or contact the all African House prior to arrival especially if you arrive in the evening. There is also an ATM on Campus.

 

Centurion and City Hopper are recommended taxi. Book via their web site.  Best rate. Reliable  Based at the Airport, mail  info@centuriontours.co.za. 24/7. They also have a boot at the airport past the exit in the middle of the main lobby.

Uber works well and is quite cheap in South Africa but not from the airport.

 

The all africa House is situated below the rugby field in the middle campus at I J 3 4  in the middle campus map. To go to upper campus you have to walk straight up to the left and take the tunnel. Take the stairs. Turn right.

and come up the ramp into the parking area.

The entrance is on the mountain side of the

building. It is Entrance 2 South. Dial 1 during

normal hours and 32 on Week End.

We will fetch you the first day at 830 at the All Africa House near breakfast and walk to the class venue.

 

 

UCT upper Campus maps

 

The UCT club where meals and where the ice breaker will be served is located in the Sport Center building and the entrance is opposite to the Sport Center entrance. It is just down the info center. It is at E11 in the upper campus map and to the left of the rugby field

 

CLASSROOM

We will come and pick you up on Tuesday morning at the All Africa House near the breakfast area outside. Class are in The James Building, University Avenue, upper Campus C D 10 11.  ​From All Africa House walk straight up to the left and take the tunnel below the highway , cross the rugby field, follow the dashed blue line on the upper campus map.Follow the blue dashed line to the Jameson Plaza. Turn right to the James Building , the third building on the left. Classroom is to the left in the building same floor as the entrance. The Dept of Oceanography is two floor below.

 

MEALS

 

Lunch and Braai will be served at the UCT club, Madiba Circle, upper campus E 11 on week days. Across the information center, down the James Building. In the Sport Center with entrance opposite to the entrance of the sport center. It has a view on the Rugby field. Booking made under Nansen Tutu Center Summer School. There is also a bar but drinks are on you except for one drink and one coffee during meals.
